A Model United Nations (MUN) is an activity that simulates the workings of the United Nations. It is a great hands-on (and educational) experience in order to raise awareness about current global issues, the benefits of cooperation, and, of course, the functions and structure of the United Nations.
Through Model UNs, students can develop and practice skills in research, organization, writing, debating, lobbying, negotiation, public-speaking, cooperation and compromise. These conferences also assist students in understanding the intricacies of global problems, but also emphasize the potential for solutions through discussion and multilateral cooperation. In essence, Model UN enhances the capacity of students to communicate and share ideas, expertise and experience with each other.
